EQUITABLE ENERGY ACCESS
ON COUNTRY
Around the world, approximately 759 million, or 13% of the world live without access to energy.
Across Australia there are nearly 120,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in remote communities that experience challenges accessing reliable and clean energy.

Australia’s large geographical size presents a challenge to connect remote and regional Australia to the national energy grid. Delivering clean and affordable sources of energy on Country is important because of inequities accessing energy in rural and regional Australia compared to urban areas.

These factors, combined with significantly lower incomes and greater health problems in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations means that their energy access needs are of great importance.
